IDEAS Framework Phase 2: Designing a Plan

The next phase of the IDEAS Framework is designing a plan of the job types, companies and people you need to talk to get more information about this career path you’re uncovering.

In Introspection, you identified your core skills and your personality traits. You did some research on how those skills and traits align with certain job types.   You also dreamt big about some industries that you’d be excited to work in.

Core Skills: Leadership, Time management, communication

Personality Trait: Enneagram 3 - The Achiever (adaptable, confident, pragmatic)

Industry: Motocross

Possible Jobs: Project manager at motocross gear manufacturer.  Or event planner for motocross races or trade shows.

Now in the design phase, it’s all about designing a plan of the job types, companies and people you need to talk to in the motocross industry.  But to get there, you need to do your research.  

It’s as simple as Googling “jobs in motocross” and “companies in motocross.”   Once you’ve identified some of the different jobs in motocross, you need to see if those jobs utilize your core skills.  Do they sound interesting?  Do you want to learn more about them?  

And now that you know the companies, you can go to their web sites and see what types of jobs they hire for (Fox Racing: https://tinyurl.com/foxjobs2024). You can go on LinkedIn and search “Project Managers at Fox Racing.”  Or you might have to call Fox Racing Corporate headquarters (1-888-369-7223) to ask Human Resources if you can talk to a Project Manager on the manufacturing team.  A little scary at first?  Maybe.  Super rewarding to talk to someone in industry doing the job you might love to do? Absolutely.

Create a list of people you can reach out to.  Next phase is Exploration and we’ll talk about how you make those connections and set up informational interviews, job shadows and internships so you can validate your ideas and start building your network of people in the industry.
